Our University is home to several distinctive centers that are transforming science and technology education nationally and providing learning opportunities for our students. Those Centers include the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement (NCSCE), and the Center for Advanced Entertainment and Learning Technologies (CAELT).
The NCSCE, which develops, implements, and evaluates activities and projects that encourage and strengthen the efforts of colleges and universities to reform undergraduate education, especially in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Its signature programs are SENCER and GLISTEN.
Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER), a project funded by the National Science Foundation, promotes greater engagement of undergraduates with the sciences in institutions of higher education in the US and selected other countries.
Thanks to a multi-year grant from the Learn and Serve America Higher Education program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Great Lakes Innovative Stewardship through Education Network (GLISTEN) project will harness the expertise and innovation of college faculty and undergraduate students in eight states and two Canadian provinces. Through the project, GLISTEN seeks to improve undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning and instruction focused on the Great Lakes, encourage interest in “green jobs” by engaging students in community-based research and action targeted at restoring and sustaining a healthy Great Lakes ecosystem.
The University’s Center for Advanced Entertainment and Learning Technologies (CAELT) advances the use of entertainment and learning technologies across a variety of industries, and aims to build a talented workforce in interactive media and learning technologies, as well as serve as a regional champion of this rapidly growing field, by coordinating with other innovative new media organizations throughout the nation.
The Harrisburg University Food Science & Technology Center promotes food science & technology research and education through the creation of academic programs and industry partnerships that increase the number of qualified food professionals and support economic development within Pennsylvania and the northeast region of the United States.
The Government Technology Institute provides education, training, resources, and networks in which government technologyleaders and professionals can learn, collaborate and explore effective technology solutions for Pennsylvania.
